In today’s video, I want to take the dream vacation and show you a four step process to help you make your own dream trip this coming 2016.

Have you ever taken a dream vacation?

In 2014, my wife and I took one of those dream vacations, and it all started because we were watching a movie called “Mamma Mia!”.

During that movie, we both were just fascinated by the Country of Greece and the Island of Santorini because of the gorgeous views and the blue Mediterranean Sea.

I remember looking at Rhonda and saying, “Babe, wouldn’t it be awesome if we could go to Greece?

Whenever we start dreaming and take our own dream trip in life, the first thing we’ve got to do is start at the 30,000-foot level. That’s where you have a vision.

Picture a jet airplane that is going to take you from wherever you are all the way to your dream destination.

In this particular story, it really started with just dreaming and having a big vision. I didn’t know if it would ever come true.

That’s exactly what I want to encourage you to do, is to write down over the next 3 years, what do you want to be, do and have. I like to ask my clients to write down 30 specific dreams – 10 dreams that you want to be, 10 that you want to do, and 10 that you want to have.

Would you write your 30 Be-Do-Haves to help you prepare for your dream trip?

The second part of taking your dream trip for 2016 is to come down to a 12,000-foot level. Literally, that is where you are going to write your goals.

Think about 2016, and write down the top 12 goals or projects that you want to accomplish.

Like with my wife and I going to Santorini, Greece. I remember writing a goal card at the beginning of the year, and literally I put a picture of the Santorini Island on that 3×5 card, and I wrote the affirmation “I am enjoying my wife and Greece in 2014”.

Literally, I set that goal to create that dream vacation.

In the third step of this process of achieving your 2016 dream trip, you’ve got to think of your dream at a 3,000-foot level.

I have done a lot of flying lately, traveling around the world, doing workshops for entrepreneurs and CEOs and one of the things that happens when you are getting ready to land is you’ll hear the captain say, “Prepare for landing!

That’s where you’re going to look at your 90-day plan.

In 3 months, 90 days, what are the top 3 priorities that you want to accomplish?

That’s what I want you to write down now.

In this fourth step of the process of going to your 2016 dream trip, it’s where you’ve got to put the rubber to the road, and that literally means that you’ve got to think about landing your plane on the runway.

Think about this as your weekly action steps.

Every Sunday or Monday, I want you to write down what are your top 3 action steps to complete either 1 of your 90-day priorities, or all 3 of your 90-day priorities.

All dream vacations and all dream trips begin first with a high level 30,000-foot vision of what you want to be, do and have.

Then it comes closer to that 12,000-foot level where you get clear on your goals for each month of your year.

The third step is to prepare for landing, and that means coming down to that 3,000-foot level, writing your top 3 priorities and accomplishing those in 90 days.

Finally, you have to set weekly action steps to accomplish those 90-day goals until finally, you have landed in your beautiful vacation spot and landed that dream.

That’s exactly what happened with my wife and I in 2014.

Not only did we enjoy the beautiful Island of Greece, the island of Santorini, but also I got to meet two of my clients, one in Greece and one in Turkey.

I had done Skype coaching with them, but I had never met them face to face, and so during that trip, it was such an honor to spend time with them.

That’s what I would love to do with you.

Let’s talk strengths!

How do you take a 20 ton, 12 foot block of ice and transform it into an elaborate award winning work of art?

Just ask, Singapore Captain Ng See Yian who was gracious to allow me to interview him and learn how his five person team creates their magical snow sculptor called Love, Balance and Community.

Brent-OBannon-StrengthsFinder-Coaching-Blog-Transforming-Talent-2My wife and I got a blast of insight about transforming talent as we watched the 14 countries participating in the 23rd Annual International Snow Sculptor Championship in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Sculptor Rob Neyland said, “Snow is a living medium. It starts as water from the sky, and we just grasp it briefly, and then it’s water again. It’s a lot like life in that respect.”

Talent is a divine given genetic predisposition to think, feel, and act.

Just like snow sculpting teams only have 65 hours to work their magic before being evaluated on their performance we only have a short life time to maximize our talents.

Here are three tips to transform talent.

1. Start with a story.

Team Singapore used their mascot as a model for transforming their block of ice.

The story behind their mascot is that the head of a lion and the body of a fish surrounded by dolphins signifies how the world can communicate courageously, attaining peace by living in love and balance.

Donald Clifton, the father of strengths psychology created the Clifton Strengthsfinder assessment measuring 34 talent themes. Over 8 million people in 22 languages have taken this test and now Gallup strengths evangelist want to up the ante to a billion takers.

Clifton also had a vision of winning the Nobel Peace Prize uniting the world with a positive language of talents and strengths.

What would the world, your family, your church, your work look like if everyone started with the story of strengths?

To coach your clients to transform their talents into strengths, ask them to “describe a story when they were at their best.”

By starting with a personal story they have a model for talent and success.

2. Strengthen with tools.

The Snow Sculpture Championship is not allowed to use power tools and can only use hand tools such as chisels, saws, and vegetable peelers. Each sculptor on the team transforms the ice through their skills and precision from years of practice.

Talent is also transformed into strength when we gain knowledge and create a strength based mindset. Honing a positive growth mindset instead of a negative fixed mindset allows character to develop and fuels our talents.

As the book, Outliers describes, true genius is achieved with at least 10,000 hours of repetitive practice.

Coaching, mentoring, masterminding, reading, training, are a few tools used for transforming talents into strengths in everyday life.

3. Succeed with a team.

It’s true “All of us is smarter and stronger than one of us.”

To transform talents to an elaborate work of artful strengths takes the interdependence of strengths from an entire team. Each person has their role and genius that turns a block of ice into love, balance, and community.

No one person has all the strengths needed to create a masterful work of art. It truly takes not only the power of two but the genius of five team members to transform a block of ice into am inspiring award winning masterpiece.

How could your teams capitalize on each others strengths better for success?

Remember to transform talent into strength like the Singapore team transformed ice into a beautiful snow sculpture and then the world will see more love, balance and community.

Do you know what it’s like to lock your keys in your car?  You have so many places to go and a million things to do, but you’re STUCK.  Whether you’re stuck in your marriage, your finances, or personal dreams there is hope.

First, realize you already have the keys to get you moving again.  Most of us go looking for life’s keys like a needle in a hay stack. No, the keys are inside YOU. Your inborn talents and life experiences create your own set of STRENGTHS. Your strengths are your keys to get unstuck.

Are you an activator? This person is ready for action. They believe action is the best way for learning. In other words they are a “ready, fire, aim” type of person.

Do you have the context strength? This person looks back and learns from the past. They understand people better by getting history, or, context.

Is the command strength natural for you? This person is willing to ask the hard questions and face conflict head on. They are not intimidated but rather, energized, to take a stand and lead people.

If you still have not taken the Strengths Finder 2.0 online assessment you are missing the opportunity to discover your top 5 strengths. Get my free videos to show you how to discover your top 5 strengths at

Second, realize it’s fine and dandy to call a locksmith to open your door and put the keys back in your hands.  A life coach/business coach/relationship coach is like a locksmith. We have been trained to unlock and open the doors of your mind.

I frequently hear my coaching clients say to me, “Wow that’s a great question.” My gift is to ask powerful questions that you have never thought of. These questions help you increase self awareness, discover solutions, and find opportunities that you never imagined.

Would you rather stay stuck on the side of the road of your life or get moving toward your exciting destinations and fulfilling dreams?

Coaching points:

  1. What is one area in your life where you are stuck?
  2. What are your top 5 strengths? Are you fully using my strengths in life?

How are your public speaking skills?

93% of adults say they’re “shy.”  Yet, the #1 skill for success is still communication.

Do you realize how much public speaking you do every week in networking, staff meetings, job interviews, leaving a voice mail, radio/TV interviews, and, of course, presentations?

It’s true that people judge us by our public speaking skills and many of you have expressed a desire to improve your public speaking. In fact, 39.5% of people hire a life coach to improve public speaking skills.

Remember the following about public speaking:

Public speaking will make you accessible to your audience, instantly making you credible and visible in the most economical yet profitable way.

  1. Accessible: When you speak in public you are making yourself more accessible. People don’t just want to hear you, they want to know you. They want to know the person behind the product.
  2. Credible: If you have good speaking skills, people will automatically believe you are a credible person. If you have poor speaking skills you will lose credibility quickly.
  3. Visible: Most people do not remember a name, product, or service until they have seen or heard it 5 times. Speaking in public is one of the best ways to increase your marketing visibility.
  4. Economical: Think about it, you pay a lot of money for a newspaper or magazine ad, TV commercial, or radio jingle, but when you speak in public, you don’t have to pay anything most of the time. Public speaking is the most economical way to market yourself and your business. But you better be good at it or you will shoot yourself in the foot.
  5. Profitable: Do you realize you can actually make money from your public speaking?  You can get paid to deliver keynotes and training. You can sell books, coaching, audio resoursces, and teleseminars. You can drive more traffic to your web site where you sell your products. If you enjoy public speaking, I can coach you in building your speaking business.

Coaching points:

  1. What are your strengths and weaknesses in public speaking?
  2. Are you fully utilizing public speaking for your business, product, and marketing?

Last year, I remember how my heart was pounding with excitement when I went to Dallas to see Jack Canfield speak about his book, The Success Principles.

As I walked into the building, I prayed that I would meet the people I was supposed to meet. In the first few minutes, Jack shared about having dinner with an inspirational entrepreneur in Dallas the night before. Sitting beside me was Michael, a middle age psychologist from Kansas City. We paired and shared during an exercise.

He placed a 3×5 card in front of me with the written affirmation he had been saying daily for approximately six months. It said, “I am grinning ear to ear when I meet Jack Canfield face to face.”  With awe and joy he said, “Brent, that was my brother and I who had dinner last night with Jack Canfield for two hours.”

Now I was the one grinning ear to ear, inspired by the power of affirmations. Later, Michael introduced me to his entrepreneural brother who shared some incredible insights on growing my speaking and coaching business.

Here are some quick guidelines for powerful affirmations.

  1. Be personal. Start with I am or your name.
  2. Be present. Use the present tense.
  3. Be positive. Say what you want.
  4. Be precise. No more than a sentence.
  5. Be purposeful. Include an action word with -ing.
  6. Be passionate. Include an emotion/feeling word.

Here are a few of my personal affirmations using these pointers.

  • I attract favor and unlimited possibilities to fulfill my dreams and become my best.
  • I experience commitment, affection, intimacy, fun, and great sex with Rhonda more than ever.
  • I visualize and realize success, happiness, and a bright future for my children.
  • I am healthy, happy, financially free, connected, and outrageously successful.
  • I exude gratitude, humility and happiness for the journey of life.

I challenge you to write down your affirmations on a 3×5 card, carry them with you, and say them daily at least once in the morning and before bed for 30 days. It’s true that we attract what we affirm daily.  Soon, you too will be grinning from ear to ear.

Do you use your strengths in your marriage?

Marriage is like a combination lock; your job is to find the right numbers, in the right order, so you can unlock your love potential.

Famous management consultant Peter Dru38833vl2ng9la32cker once said that “most Americans don’t know their own strengths. When you ask them, they look at you with a blank stare.”  Drucker was dead on.

When it comes to understanding our strengths, most of us are in the dark. Yet the fastest way to marriage success is discovering and applying our strengths.  How then, can you focus on your strengths if you don’t know what those strengths are?

The short answer is: you can’t.

Through the Strengths Finder 2.0, I can help you and your spouse discover your top 5 strengths.

For example if your spouse is a LEARNER, then sign her up for yoga or piano lessons or a class at the local college. Take her to a book store or a movie or the opera–any place she can learn new ideas and activities. For learners, life is one long deliberate journey from ignorance to competence. Understand this much about her and you’ve just connected in a meaningful way that you both never thought possible.

If one of her strengths is HARMONY, be on the lookout for areas of agreement. Find common ground. Steer clear of debates and you’ll find your own life in perfect harmony–lickety split.

If your husband has the ACTIVATOR strength, utilize it to help you make improvements around the house. Activators can transform ideas into immediate action.

Maybe your husband has WOO (Winning Others Over). This strength can bring fun, energy, and more socialization to your relationship. People with this strength naturally use humor to ease the conflict with their teenagers, for example.

How do you jump over weaknesses and flow into your strengths?

You need a coach to teach you how. And now you have one!  Get Your Strength Finder 2.0 Book Now + your complimentary Discovery Coaching Session (Value $120) for $19.95.

Put the odds in your favor!

Coaching points:

  1. Do you focus more on your spouse’s strengths or weaknesses?
  2. What strengths do you appreciate in your spouse?

That’s the question my hero and personal development guru Jack Canfield asked me when I attended his Success Principles seminar.  It stands for Big Hairy Audacious Goal.

Time focused

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.” -Mark Twain

You can feel it. You can see it. You know when momentum shifts in the middle of a football game, when your business starts to jive, or when your marriage feels alive.

How do you create winning momentum in everyday life?

1. Momentum starts with writing goals.

Goals are dreams in black and white but they are merely wishes if not written down. They will fade and you will forget them if you don’t record them. Notice how when you want an important item at the grocery store, you don’t leave it to chance or memory–you write it down.

On this year’s grocery list for life, what do you want to be? What do you want to have? What do you want to do?

2. Momentum increases by reviewing goals.

Charles Coonradt says in his book, The Game of Work, “Written goals that are reviewed regularly become reality.” If you’re like me, you’ve got your grocery list in your hand and look at it constantly while you’re walking up and down the grocery aisle. When it comes to the grocery store of life, my habit is to have an hour of power first thing in the morning. I read and listen to my success script, strength affirmations, review my business plan, and my 90 day goals.During the day when I feel stuck or lost and losing momentum, I pull out my “grocery list” and review my goals. The more you review your goals, the greater momentum you produce.

3. Momentum produces massive action.

When a jet increases enough speed and momentum, it takes off into the wild blue yonder. It is in flight to it’s destination. When you’re at the grocery store and you find the item on your list, you pick it up, put into the cart, and buy it. That’s massive action. You cross a line through it. Done! What about your goal to double your income, take a dream vacation, or hire a life coach? Creating winning momentum requires writing your goals, reviewing your goals daily, and then taking massive action on your goals. It’s that simple.

So why don’t we do it?

Most of us lose focus. We need someone who reminds us of our goals and holds us accountable to take massive action.

That’s what I love to do for you…

Tennis has served me well since the first time I picked up a tennis racquet at 14. I instantly fell in love with the game and found life purpose.

You don’t have to play tennis to serve your highest purpose but I would like to share what I’ve learned from 30 years of tennis and how it can help you serve your highest purpose–using the word ACE.

37183v6c5okaypy1. Achieve

Tennis, other sports, and games challenge us to achieve. Personally, I started at the bottom of the tennis ladder but over the years I got off my bottom and climbed to the top. I achieved many goals in tennis, winning state, playing four years on a college scholarship, and being #1 in Texas in father-son doubles. The game taught me how to master techniques, how to score, and ultimately how to win in life.

You may not want to win in tennis but everyone has an innate desire to win and achieve in life. What do you want to achieve in life? Each week I write down what I want to achieve in the week. Then I go about my week crossing off the items I achieved. We each have a need to achieve. I’m challenging you to focus on getting clear about what you want to achieve, both long-term and short-term.

If you are an over-achiever, pay attention to the next point:

2. Connect

If you achieved your wildest dream and didn’t have anyone to celebrate with, what an empty feeling and pursuit it would be! Just like a tennis player has to keep their eye on the ball at all times to connect with the ball, increasing accuracy and power, each of us needs to watch our relationships daily to increase our purpose. Who do you need to connect with daily? Maybe it’s God, your spouse, kids, or your friends. Maybe at work it’s a colleague, customer, or prospect.

The game of tennis has given me the opportunity to connect with so many people. It’s the sharing, the bursts of laughter, and the friendly competition that thrills my heart when I play the game. Pick up the phone, go to lunch, and connect daily to serve your highest purpose.

Even if you achieve and connect there is still more. What is it?

3. Enjoy

Tennis is fun for me. After 30 years I still play tournaments and play on a tennis team in Dallas. It’s one way I enjoy myself. Enjoying life and experiencing happiness is another part of serving your highest purpose.

The Greater Catechism says, “The chief purpose of man is to love God and enjoy Him forever.”

How many people achieve and connect but don’t find time to enjoy life? What do you truly enjoy?  It doesn’t have to be big extravagant vacations–it could be playing words with friends, reading a book in the sunshine, or chasing your cat or your grandkids.

Are you too busy? Too serious minded? Do you believe play is frivolous? Lighten up and top off your day with some kind of enjoyment. If you achieve, connect, and enjoy each day you will serve your highest purpose.

Go ahead, ACE your day.

13276dbsk8cmoh5What is your subconscious saying?

Oceanographers say 88% of an iceberg is below the surface while only 12% is visible. Sigmund Freud theorized that our behavior is mostly unconscious.

Life success is 88% about changing our subconscious programming and only 12% about achieving conscious goals.

Writing, focusing, and achieving your conscious goals is only the tip of the iceberg. Your subconscious thoughts, beliefs, and patterns will either sabotage your success or be the instinctive power to life success.

That is why I’ve been coaching my clients to create a “Strength Script.” This script focuses on your top 5 strengths and becomes a daily mantra that strengthens your subconscious and is a guide to achieve your conscious goals.

We can create your Strength Script in 3 telephone coaching sessions. Email or call me if you are interested at [email protected] or 903-819-0301.

Coaching points:

  1. What unconscious thoughts, beliefs, and patterns are sabotaging your success?
  2. Do you know and are you tapping into your natural subconscious strengths for life success?
